Job record

The traveler is the sheet that follows a part around the building and gets signed at every station. These are eight of them, most recent first, reproduced as they were closed out. No photographs, because a photograph of a finished weldment tells an estimator nothing that the route and the held tolerance do not tell him better.

8 jobs, 40 operations between them. Customer names and drawings stay with the customer; the route and the number we held to do not.

21 working days

Material
A36 plate, 0.750 in, hot-dip galvanized
Quantity

Lifting beam, 8 ton

18 working days

Material
A572-50 plate, 1.000 in
Quantity
1 off
Governing tolerance
± 0.031 in on pin hole location

Pin holes were welded oversize and bored after the assembly cooled, because welding distortion moves a bored hole and nothing else will bring it back.

Machine guard panels

5 working days

Material
5052-H32, 0.125 in
Quantity
48 off
Governing tolerance
± 0.016 in on leg length

Waterjet rather than plasma - a plasma edge in thin aluminium work-hardens and cracks on the brake.

Pump skid frame

12 working days

Material
A500 Gr. B hollow section
Quantity
2 off
Governing tolerance
± 1/16 in on anchor centres

Mitred on the saw, not flame-cut. The fit-up gap was under a sixteenth all round, which is why the frame came out flat.

Rolled tank course, 96 in wide

11 working days

Material
304L, 0.250 in
Quantity
3 off
Governing tolerance
± 3/32 in on inside diameter

Flats were left on both ends and trimmed after the longitudinal seam, so the course closed round instead of egg-shaped.

Mezzanine stair stringers

14 working days

Material
A572-50
Quantity
