Qualifications

A qualification is a range, not a badge. Each bar below is the thickness scope the procedure actually covers, drawn on one axis from zero to 2.000 in, and the mark is the coupon thickness that was tested to earn it. Work outside a bar is work we would have to qualify first, and we will say so.

Inspection

Five methods. Three are done here and two are not, and the two that are not are the two where an in-house result would be worth less.

Method Performed by Applied to Record
Visual In house, two qualified inspectors Every welded assembly, before finishing Signed on the traveler
Ultrasonic Independent testing laboratory All full-penetration welds in lifting and load-path parts Report filed with the job
Magnetic particle In house Fillet welds on lifting components, and on request Signed on the traveler
Dimensional In house First part off, then one in ten, then the last part off Measured values, not a pass mark
Coating thickness In house Every primed load Gauge readings filed with the job

Traceability

What we can still tell you about a part two years after it left, and how.

  1. Mill test reports are received before the plate is cut and retained for seven years.
  2. Heat numbers are transferred to every piece cut from a plate, by hard stamp or by paint stencil where stamping is not allowed.
  3. Filler metal lot numbers are recorded per joint on the traveler.
  4. The quality system is documented and audited annually by an independent registrar.

Procedure documents and inspection reports are sent with the job, or ahead of it on request. Submit a drawing.
